Easter Bonnet 2018

Last year, I was asked to make an Easter Bonnet for Broadway Cares, representing Come From Away.  With what amounted to 2 days to make it before the dress rehearsal, I knew we didn't have a lot of time.

So, I bought a blow up globe and cut out the bottom.
I got some fiberfill and air packing.

As I stuffed, I joked that it was the "closest I'm ever going to get to stuffing a Thanksgiving turkey"

I made arrows saying "Gander" and "You are here" .  I used a chopstick to pierce the globe where Gander is, so the arrow would be pointing to it.  I also hot glued the globe to a piece of cardboard to make a flat surface.

Our model, Aspen Waddell, came in and
we realized how wobbly and heavy this actually was.

Our stitcher, Estella Marie, suggested that we add 38 planes on ribbon to help her balance.

It worked!

I then sprayed a lot of glitter hair spray.

Here is the final product.  Photo by Monica Simoes.  It has since been donated to The National Hat Museum, which I had the pleasure of visiting in 2014.

I learned quite a bit doing this bonnet and plan on using those lessons in the 2019 Easter Bonnet.  Stay Tuned!
