Broadway Backwards

Yesterday,  Philip Heckman dropped off some alterations for Broadway Backwards 2014. Very basic stuff--dropping the sleeve hems on some jackets.  I can alter a suit, but I wouldn't consider myself a tailor.  I finished them earlier today.  (I'm also a pretty quick seamstress)

The reason that he can do that position in a pair of Dickies pants?  A spandex gusset!

Ain't Misbehavin'

This Fall, I also was the assistant costume designer for "Ain't Misbehavin'" at Crossroads Theatre, in New Brunswick, NJ.  Andre DeShields, from the original Broadway production,  directed it.  Deborah Caney, a longtime friend, was the costume designer.  (Fun fact:  I introduced Deb to her husband.)

One of the things I did was paint and dye the shoes.  I mixed the colors to match the dresses and suggested the glitter for a detail. Shoes are a specialty of mine.

I did lots of alterations, refurbishing and fancying up.

F*cking Hipsters

So, I've been working on this for the New York Musical Festival.  Ann Closs-Farley designed the costumes.

  I previously worked with her on "The Pee Wee Herman Show", which was my first Broadway Wardrobe Supervisor gig.  She took a chance on stranger who had never supervised before, but really wanted to.  For that, I'm eternally thankful.

Ann has a great sense of play, both in her work and in life.  I'm extremely lucky to have her as a friend. Check out her website, there is some great stuff.  Or, just come and see the "Hipsters" and you'll see what I mean.

As The World Turns

The late Spring thru the Summer of 2008, I was a stitcher on "As The World Turns", thanks to the wonderfully talented Philip Heckman.  A lot of the stuff I worked on wouldn't be that interesting to show, like hemmed pants.

But, a picture from a wedding is!  At the same time, I was altering gowns for a friend's wedding.

 I had the chance to work for Philip again for Broadway Backwards 2011 and I look forward to doing it again in the future.
