The Women on PBS

 

Jan 2002, I was brought in to refurbish and make the costumes camera ready for "The Women", a play that was filmed for Stage On Screen.  I didn't think to take pictures, but thru the magic of Youtube, I can show you the screen capture.

Dancing with The Stars 2016

While I was the supervisor for Cirque du Soleil's Paramour, I had the pleasure of going to Los Angeles to help with our act on Dancing with The Stars.

I was able to pull a lot of the costumes from our stock.  (We kept extra tuxedo pants and shirts, just in case something blew out.)  Jennifer Love Costumes made us new vests.

I was able to meet with Chris Silcox and Remi Bakkar, our acrobats for the event on Thursday before we flew out.  Our fittings went well and we only had minor notes.

While I was packing the Friday night, I started thinking about that their might be commercial break promos, which is called a bumper, and what if they want a different look?  So, I also packed 2 tailcoats, 2 cummerbunds and extra shoes, along with a small sewing kit and stain remover kit.

I flew out Saturday night after our matinee.




















Sunday, I set up while there was a camera blocking rehearsal.

Monday October 3rd, after a long day of camera rehearsal and practicing in the parking lot, we presented.

Early Tuesday morning, I flew back and was in for the evening show.

Happy New Year 2013

This New Year's Eve, I had the pleasure of working for the NY Philharmonic. Occasionally, they have special concerts with guests.  A few years back, I did one with Idina Menzel.  This one was a tribute to Marvin Hamlisch and there were many guest artists.

These concerts consist usually of prepping the guest artist's clothes, maybe light repairs.  This one, however, also had a day of alterations.  The reason?  Paper Mill Playhouse's "A Chorus Line" was performing and their costumes had moved on.  So, costumes were borrowed, and while very close, needed tweaking.

The picture is a small sewing kit. The tapestry suitcase has my sewing machine in it.  The blue J.Crew bag is loaded with hooks,snaps, thread, Static Guard, Double sided tape, zipper glide, starch, needles, pins, both safety and straight.  Oh, and my purse, which usually has some sort of snips or seam ripper in it, along with a tape measure.

On the day of the concert, I was very happy to be assisted by my friend Kat Martin, who also worked with me on "Harvey", the show I wardrobe supervised this past summer. I had new repairs come up after the rehearsals and she did the bulk of the costume prep.   I also saw some faces that I had worked with before, including Larry Lelli, the fantastic drummer from Million Dollar Quartet.  (He also has a vlog)

A Capitol Fourth 2011

Over Fourth of July Weekend 2011, I went with the cast of Million Dollar Quartet to Washington, DC for "A Capitol Fourth'.  In the time between the closing of the Broadway run and "A Capitol Fourth", I refurbished Jerry Lee Lewis' jacket, and my good friend Aughra Moon remade the Elvis jacket.  Her work is impeccable, and she patterned off of the old jacket. However, we did run out of time for a final fitting, so I did it on site. 

Alas, the jacket was too small.    I came back to the hotel and worked on it. A very late fitting in the hotel lobby made us realize that it was going to need more.  The next morning, after some talking with the staff at the event, I made that jacket grow ten inches.  That's right...ten inches.  I added gussets under the arms, and a pleat to the back of the jacket.  (I had the extra fabric with me.)

I was very nervous. What if the jacket ripped onstage?

As you can see, he did his behind the back maneuver, the jacket didn't tear and I could once again breathe.
