Feather Seminar

February 11, 2019--I took a feather working seminar at the Lynne Mackey Studio, which is a theatrical milliner, which means she makes custom hats for theatre which take into the account such things as sound, lighting and choreography. These hats are AMAZING!  You have seen them in such things as Wicked, Spamalot and The Marvelous Miss Maisel.


In the seminar, I learned about such things as wiring feathers to make them stronger and fuller.  This is 2 ostrich feathers that have been sewn together on a wire.

        I also learned about curling feathers, both with a knife and with an iron.  These are curled feathers.


Also covered were the types of feathers, the parts of feathers, dyeing, glueing, and willowing.  Willowing is a making a feather longer.
