Evita Shoes--Ricky Martin
This past spring, I worked on Evita as the preproduction shoe painter. The job started out as just distressing some shoes, and I was then given further responsibility and wound up painting almost all the shoes. (I would say all, but I'm sure there was a pair or two that I didn't touch.)
These are Ricky Martin's boots. They were a flat ugly leather. Christopher Oram, the costume designer, wanted them to look "real" and have that "sexy look that broken in leather gets" and add some warmth to it. I added some reddish paint and rubbed it out, so it was a stain. I then stippled in some black shoe polish and polished them. I then polished them w/ a neutral polish. Christopher was very pleased and I'm told that Mr Martin said "My shoes got love".
